If there's no door then effectively the filter is filtering all the available square footage so add up all the accessible floor space that the filter is cleaning and you may find that you'll need a larger air purifier! this product is essentially made for a smaller room, your asking it to work as a whole floor model without a door so it will be less effective - a better question to ask is what is the cost of a filter as if it's working a larger area it will require more filters so you really may be better off getting a larger one anyways or you'll just be getting a lot of filters as it's not made for a larger area.

Hello, this unit is effective for room size up to 1,253 sq. ft. at one air change per hour, the FPK50UW will filter the air in the AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) Suggested Room Size of 259 sq ft. at 4.8 air changes per hour. This is as effective as if there is a door.
