• Hello, yes, if the unit is being placed in a cabinet; it requires approximately 4 inches of space around it for proper ventilation.

• I have mine in a hutch that has a space for a microwave. This Sharp microwave replaced another one that was there over 10 to 15 year's old.

• I would never recommend putting a microwave in a cupboard as all microwave ovens need good ventilation. only in a space that provides good ventilation
