“Can this work on iphone 7 with a adapter or does it have to be plugged in directly & also if I have an adapter and a splitter for headphones and a mic, plugged into the adapter would this work if plugged into the splitter? I hope that isnt confusing”

Hello - the MVL, due to its TRRS connection would require a 3.5 to LTG adapter in order to function on newer iPhone models. Thank You!
