“Can someone explain to me how a hotspot works. I'm thinking of purchasing one to use when out doing notary and signing jobs. I do not want to connect to public internet services. Do I plug this into my laptop and sign in or do I have to use my cell also.”

If you purchase this one you downiad the Solis app from the app store and you buy your gigs of wifi right from there. Automatically loads. I am not techy at all and the whole thing took me about 5 minutes to set up. The directions are in a booklet when you purchase and the app walks you right through it. SUPER EASY! The Solis password and user name is right on the back of solis machine.

User will need to purchase the hotspot device and can manage their data plan via mobile App. Each hotspot will include Lifetime Data Plan that provides up to 1GB per month (distributed by 250mb every 7 days). If the user need more data, user can purchase additional data plans on the Solis App. There is no need to plug the hotspot into the laptop. The Solis Lite includes the network name and password that you can connect from your laptop.

All you have to do is set it up through the app which is pretty easy and there is a monthly subscription for the data but it's pretty reasonably priced. No need to plug it into your laptop or have to use your cell.
