How much internet speed do I need for my camera?
WHY DOES INTERNET SPEED MATTER?

The speed required to operate the cameras depends on the resolution quality that the camera is sending. Higher resolutions require faster speeds. This is especially important to consider for during alarms when all cameras will record simultaneously and therefore require more speed.

That is because your phone's wifi chip is able to receive and send enough data to support multiple internet activities simultaneously; however, our cameras' wifi chips are designed specifically for streaming. Streaming requires, at most, 2 mbps for 1080p, which means the camera does not have as high capacity as the phone's wifi chip.

The whole system only works over 2.4Ghz WiFi. This because the 2.4Ghz band allows for greater coverage area and less signal loss over longer distances. Essentially if you live in a brick or concrete home, the 2.4 would still succumb to the drop off of having obstructions to block the signal, but not near what would happen with 5Ghz.

I hope they offer the option in the future though since Range Extenders and Mesh networks are becoming a bigger thing.

The cameras run on 2.4 ghz speed, not 5 ghz.

Good question. On my Linksys it runs on the 2.4 band and as of right now there is no option on the Simplisafe app to move it over to the 5g band.

No. The cameras work only at 2.4 MHz, which reportedly penetrates walls better. My modem offers 2.4 MHz and 5 MHz so it is not a problem for me.
