I am not sure what you mean "work with older system". I have a first gen simplisafe alarm and the doorbell camera. Tne only advantage I see is that if you got the interactive plan for your alarm, when you get a doorbell camera you no longer have to pay for the doorbell camera recordings

It works well with SimpliSafe system but you can use it separately. It doesn’t work with other systems ie nest or Arlington but it does have a separate app and service you can opt to use.
