“I don’t have a doorbell at my townhome. Can I self install this or do I need an old doorbell to do so? I have the simplisafe security system already so it makes sense if I get this doorbell.”

If you don't have doorbell wires, you can use a micro USB with it to "power" it and only get notifications via the app. At this time, there is no way to get the "sound" from a speaker. But you'd get a notification in the app that says "ding dong, someone is at your front door."

I already had the red and white wires that were connected to my old doorbell which I attached to the Simplisafe video doorbell with ease. If you don't have an old doorbell, you might have to purchase an inexpensive transformer and install it to provide the minimal power needed - 8-20 volts. This procedure is inexpensive and rather easy to do yourself or you can hire an electrician to do the install which will take about 30 minutes.
