This is not an inline monitor. You do just set it on the floor and it will detect water that hits it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are three sensors at the bottom, around the feet of the unit. When water starts to rise from the surface where the unit is placed, that water will quickly touch the sensors and send an alert to the base station which will broadcast that there is a water leak. The unit can be placed directly on the floor, if the leak could be coming from any number of sources. You could also place the unit inside of a small holding pan, it you are worried about a specific source for the leak. In my case I placed the unit in a larger pan where a smaller pan sits because I expect some minor dripping to occur and only want to be notified after a "reasonable" amount of water has come down and starts to spill onto the second pan. I checked on it every week and empty out the small pan.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is perfect for a sump pump crock.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The sensor has metal prongs on the bottom that sense water. This is meant to be placed on the ground or similar. It does not work inline with pipes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. On the floor, under the sink, in the pan around the water heater, in a bucket under the A/C drain tube... Anywhere there could be a water leak. Just monitors the spot where you put it.
