Yes, as my radio was only compatible with Sirius, I had to buy this to get the reception

If you have the portable unit and antennae then all you would have to do is hook it up to a power source then find a empty fm station and set the unit for that station. If like me you can't find a empty station then yes you would need to get this piece and hook it up to your antennae then when you turn on your sirrius until you will be able to listen to it and when you turn it off it then goes back to a normal radio
