The antenna needs to be either directly at the south facing window or door or often outside of the window or door. Many windows and doors have bug screens or metalized reflective coatings that will block the satellite signal. Placing the antenna a long ways inside and away from the south facing window will greatly narrow the angles where the antenna can 'catch' the satellite signal and risk the signal being completely blocked as people walk past the antenna. Extension cables are available so you can keep the antenna at the patio door and still have the Satellite radio a longer distance away.
