It comes with IR cable that you leave near the cable box. This allows you to change channels remotely . A lot of remotes are available to show on your control device. A picture of the remote that you can press just like the real one at home. Pretty easy to use. Couple second lag as you switch channels as need time to buffer but simply to get set up
