• It’s can be 4 or 3 it’s up to you when installing the newer appliances have 4 prong the older appliances, have 3 prong any electrical appliance running off of 220 needs 50 Amps not 40 or 60 just 50 amps

• My cord had 3 prongs and fit the existing outlet just fine. I believe it is rated for 40 amps (and probably 50amps).
