I WOULD REPLACE WITH STAINLESS IT'S FLEXABLE AND THE OLD COPPER OR PLASTIC IS NO GOOD COPPER BENDS TOO EAST AND PLASTIC CUTS EASY.

Yes tap water are potable all new line to filter the h2O,just incase you forget to drain a gallon of water are your first ice cubes.

I know that if you want the Best Buy delivery team to hook up the water, you need to purchase a new kit. This is standard with most companies for liability and reducing return trips needed. If you want to do it yourself, yes the connections are universal.
