QuestionIf I am getting a fridge and I have no water connection, does Best Buy run the line to the fridge from the sink area or do I need a plumber to do that ahead of time? I assume it has to be run under the floor so they would have to do it from the basement?

- Answer It really depends upon things like, where are the water pipes behind/below your sink & cabinet? Is your basement ceiling 'finished' or just beams? For us, the fridge sat around the corner and 3 cabinets away from the kitchen sink. There was NO way to connect the line from under the sink, and NO way to run the line behind the cabinets. What worked for us was, the guy put the tap-in in the basement on the copper pipe under the kitchen sink, then ran it along the beams (our basement is unfinished, so there is access to the pipes), and had to drill a small hole up into the floor behind the fridge, to connect the copper waterline to the fridge waterline. (Actually my relative was there too and did the drilling.) This worked fine for us. If you wanted to hire a plumber to do it first, before your fridge arrives, I guess you could? Lucky for us the Best Buy contracted installers had no problems.

- Answer We just bought a new Frig with an ice maker and need to install a water line. The salesman offered the best advice and I will pass it on. He recommended, "Go ahead and buy the water line to hook up the frig in the store when you buy the appliance. If you don't need it return it." You will need a cold water feed with a shutoff valve to connect the water line to. Before they show up do your homework and figure out if what you have is good or you need to update plumbing before they get there. But also don't panic (unless you absolutely need water and/or ice in the next 24hrs). If they find they can't make the connection to whatever you have they will advise the best solution. I will update with details and comments after the new frig is installed.

QuestionWhat if i need more than 6ft? My water line goes into my furnace room and the pipe connection is a ways away. Also my plumber said copper is the best not stainless steel. I have a copper line now but will they connect it for me with a new refrigerator.

- Answer Hi Kathy. I had a copper line as well. It was really long and created a lot of tension where it attached to the fridge in back. This was because the copper line had to be folded in a way for the fridge to slide back in. The tension at the connection resulted in my pump and the mechanicals being pulled away from the fridge and creating a significant leak. When BestBuy arrived to deliver and install the fridge they easily cut away the unnecessary copper line length. They then had a tool that allowed them to easily attach the copper line to the new water line. It took less than 5 minutes. The new water line moved freely enough that when the fridge was slid back in place there is now zero tension where the line connects to the fridge. They make longer lines if you feel that you really need one longer than 6 feet. With that said, if there is a copper line in place leave it. The BestBuy installation guys can then attach the new line to the existing copper and you don't have to worry about the extra length needed.

QuestionIf I buy the LG ref. (5308815008) should I buy the waterline kit for hook-up prior to the delivery or will the crew have the part in their truck? Will they move my old ref. to the garage and install the new one in its place?

- Answer Best Buy cannot guarantee that the current water line isn't defective and won't leak, or be damaged when installing on the new product. They require a new water line but if you choose not to purchase from them, you are allowed to supply your own but it must be new.

- Answer No.. Only if you have a water hook up for your appliances. A freezer without an ice maker wouldn't need this.

- Answer If you don;t have an existing water line, Best Buy can do the installation (at a separate labor price) or you can have your own plumber install the water line prior to the refrigerator delivery. Luckily for me I already had an existing water line from when the house was built so all I paid for was the new stainless steel water line kit and Best Buy installed that for free.

- Answer Yes the filter can be easily installed. It would be inside the fridge. I recommend you go on YouTube and type in “replacing my refrigerator filter” you can find the filters on EBay or Amazon.

QuestionHow big of a hole needs to cut through the back of the cabinets to run the hose? Does Best Buy do the cut outs for that in a recently remodeled kitchen?

- Answer The hole needs to be at least 1" diameter to get the fitting through. 1 1/4 or 1 1/12 would be better. I didn't use Best Buy's service for the installation. If you have a drill and a 1/1/4" drill bit, you can make the hole yourself. Hooking up the line is not hard - especially if you find You-Tube videos. They help a lot.
