We just bought a new Frig with an ice maker and need to install a water line. The salesman offered the best advice and I will pass it on. He recommended, "Go ahead and buy the water line to hook up the frig in the store when you buy the appliance. If you don't need it return it." You will need a cold water feed with a shutoff valve to connect the water line to. Before they show up do your homework and figure out if what you have is good or you need to update plumbing before they get there. But also don't panic (unless you absolutely need water and/or ice in the next 24hrs). If they find they can't make the connection to whatever you have they will advise the best solution. I will update with details and comments after the new frig is installed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Professionals we trust suggest changing it every 3-5 years. We just had a water leak due to bad seal on a 6 yr old line that had a 10 yr warranty. Got out of necessity. Hoping it doesn't need to be replaced sooner rather than later. Too many things are made cheap these days.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You don't have to use the new line. But it is a good idea to get a new line when you get a new refrigerator. Best Buy may not guarantee the connection if they connect up the old line or they may not even connect it. You should check with your store
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.They make you purchase it for the installation for some reason but you can use your existing. Only thing is they won’t hook it up for you. Most likely for liability reasons. They did, however, show me exactly how to do it.
