Do the solar chargers need to be in direct sunlight? null

As I understood it..YES. All mine are installed in direct sunlight. Camera is under overhang and the panel is installed on the roof.

It needs to be able to see some sun so that it gathers enough juice to provide power to the cam.

probably I have mine mounted to the rain gutter on the garage roof.

Not direct sunlight but enough for the solar panels to capture the light

It only needs a few hours of direct sunlight to sufficiently power your Arlo Pro or Arlo Go camera daily.
