Instead, it installs flush with the surrounding drywall and is finished with a thin skim coat of joint compound. From there, you can paint or apply wallpaper over the surface. For best performance, keep finishes thin (about 1–1.5 mm, up to 3 mm maximum) and use flexible materials. Avoid rigid finishes such as tile or hard plaster.
