• The Arc does require power. Not sure on your second question.

• The Arc needs a power supply (plug into power) The device can synchronize with other SONOS speakers a speaker wire is not needed

• I was told that it could connect wireless to rear surround speakers and also a sub woofer.

• Thank you very much for reaching out with questions! Yes, the Sonos Arc must be plugged into a wall outlet. You can then use x2 One SLs (which also much plug into a wall outlet) wirelessly as surround sound speakers with Arc. No need for any speaker wires!
