No. If you want the Beam gen 2 to sync with other Sonos speakers, just make sure you connect it to your wifi. As long as all your Sonos speakers are on the same wifi as the phone you're using for the app, then they can all play the same music together. You can even adjust whether the additional speakers are treated as background speakers playing just instruments or vocalizing backup singers OR if the additional speakers are just delivering the same audio as the Beam from another point in the room.

This connection allows the Beam to receive audio from your TV, including for other sources connected to the TV. Optical Cable: The Beam Gen 2 does not use an optical cable. It relies solely on HDMI eARC/ARC for audio from the TV. If your TV only has an optical out, you would need a separate HDMI-to-Optical adapter to convert the signal. Streaming Music on Sonos App: To stream music to the Beam Gen 2 and other Sonos speakers, you do not need an optical cable. All Sonos speakers, including the Beam Gen 2, communicate over Wi-Fi via the Sonos app. Ensure all your Sonos devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and configured in the Sonos app.
