According to Paul at Sonos you can't pair the old Play 1 with this new one to make a stereo pair, both need to be the same.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, you cannot pair a Sonos 1 with a Play 1.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The sound of the Sonos One is the same if not better than the Play 1. At this time the Sonos One will not bond to a Play 1 to form a stereo pair.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have read that it has the same sound and also have seen where it is supposed to be different/better. I don't believe you can pair with anything other than another SONOS ONE, NOT a Play 1.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The correct answer is No. The stereo pair creates a left and right audio channel between the set. In order to do this with SONOS, it needs to be the same speaker model, i.e. 2 Play:1s. That being said, you can group all of the speakers for immersive sound throughout your room/home but the stereo pair has to be between the same model.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is just a new version of the Play1. The main difference is it ships with Alexa builts in (works identical the an Amazon Echo) and will also have Google Assistant in the near future too, so it's really the best choice for a smart speaker too.
