Yes you can. I just called Sonos to confirm that you can pair a Sonos Roam and a Sonos Roam 2 as a pair if they are in the same WiFi network. I do have one of each and they sound very good.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Roam 2 can work with a Roam 1 in the app. You should be able to see each speaker and play the same Sonos app music or different if you chose.

Sonos devices, including the Roam 2 and Roam 1, can only be paired or grouped with other Sonos speakers of the same model or different models, but they need to be on the same Sonos system and app. If you’re looking to use multiple Roam speakers together, you can use the Sonos app to group them for synchronized playback, but this will not enable stereo pairing. For stereo sound, you would need to pair two Roam 2s or two Roam 1s.
