I have yet to have any cracking problems with these. But, I have the previous model as well (the original 1000x) and haven't had any problems with them either. I use them daily and travel with them as well. I do keep them in the case when I'm not using them, could something have possibly happened to yours to cause them to crack? If you haven't already, it may be worth contacting Sony. These are a premium set of headphones, and they have lived up to that with me.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have not noticed any crackling while listening. I did notice a crackle when running my fingers over the power button once or twice.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have not experienced any crackling sounds. I, too, had an earlier model, which had issues. The quiet comfort provided me with excellent sound quality for a long flight. I wore them for over 8 hours, and was very thankful for the purchase.
