Yes. You can use optical, or HDMI. Just run an HDMI out from the receiver to the TV, and set the receiver to the "TV" input. If you're using a Sony TV connect the ARC out from the receiver to the ARC in on the TV. It will allow for the signal to pass both directions. Either way the receiver can handle the setup you're looking for.

I'm not sure if your concern is input lag for gaming, but I can assure you that I haven't experienced any, and I play some pretty input reliant fighting games.
