Can the 2 HDMI outs play different sources? null

Yes. That is what they are for. Multiple connections for multiple devices. This sound system is amazing, and for the price cannot be beat. I actually went with an open box deal, and everything was in the box to include the 2 year warranty from Sony. I went ahead and purchased a Geek Squad warranty just because it is easier to bring the product into Best Buy for repair/replacement if needed. Love this sound system!
