“It has HDMI ports and HTCP 2.2. Is running your devices directly through the sound bar HDMIs that much better audio than just running then through the tv using ARC? I’m torn between both options.”

Hi JW, we recommend taking advantage of the HDMI ARC support of this soundbar. An HDMI ARC connection preserves audio quality or simulates a setup where you have your devices connected to this soundbar, additionally, it eliminates the need for an optical cable. Please try again later.I'm not big on the arc feature on most tvs connecting to a receiver or sound bar, my experience they are to many drop it's off sound when connected using the arc feature, I personally like running all video and audio signals through a receiver or sound bar and just output video to the TV.
