• I control the volume of this sound bar with my XFINITY XR11 controller. It works without issue. The batteries that come with it is for the remote that comes with it.

• Hi ChuckE, It depends if the remote control of the cable box is programmable to control a Soundbar. The batteries (AAA) included are for the remote control of the Soundbar. -Jerome
