If not, must i purchase a wire of some kind to work in conjunction with the device and my cell phone in order to record my conversations successfully?”

There isn’t a way to connect a cell phone directly to IC recorder. The only ways to record conversations is through the cell phone speaker system by putting the recorder’s microphone next to your cell phone. An external microphone is available that may help recording a conversation easier.
