No. You do Not Need To Subscribe to Google. You can use Any Internet Browser. This is a Smart Tv, it can Connect to the Internet via any Internet Browser. (Duck Duck Go, Firefox, Chome(google), Internet Explorer.....

You can choose the set up BASIC TV option at the start of the initial setup if you want to skip the Google TV and Wi-Fi set up. However, this setup does remove some functionality like installing apps, services and features that require signing into your Google Account, and Google Assistant. Hope this helps!
