The 50mm is great and a lower cost entry point. The 35mm has a wider angle lens which means it will capture more in a shot. Keep in mind that these are both Prime Lenses and do not zoom in and out. Your feet are the zoom. The 50mm requires you to stand a bit farther away from your capture point.
