• Yes it can be placed on a stand or any flat surface. I have it on a table. It does not need to be mounted.

• Hello jorie, thank you for your question. According to the model KDL40R350D, it includes a table top stand on the box to avoid having the unit wall mounted. • yes, as shown in the picture it comes with a strong metal stand you can attach to the bottom. I do not mount on the wall either.
