Yes u can use a portable jump drive.i use a 32 gig thumb drive plugged directly into the USB .it will see all folders and most types of music.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I plugged in a USB thumb drive with MP3s on it and it worked. It read the Thumb drive and displayed the song names on the small LED display. When playing the music, it shows the time of song. I plugged in a portable HD. It did not work. It said not supported. There may be still a way to do it. Maybe a download onto HD. But I am not sure.
