- A:Answer I don't know why Sony refused to answer this question because the panel type can make a huge difference to some people depending on how they want to use the TV. To the best of my knowledge, Sony's X80J models use an IPS panel while the X85J models employ a VA panel. The exception is the 50" X80J model which has a VA panel while all the other sizes in the series have a VA panel.
