Not exactly sure of your issue but I had a similar issue prior to purchasing an extender for my router. Multiple service calls to TWC before one of their technicians explained to me that the router would only go as fast as the slowest connected device. I had an old (6-8 years) Blu-ray that he suspected was the culprit. He recommended an extender for the router. I was skeptical but I visited Best Buy, asked questions and left with an extender. It has worked great. No more drops and 4-5 phones iPads etc connected.
