The prime lens SEL50F18 is a good lens. This lens is a portrait lens best for taking pictures of people. Macro lens on the other hand is also a good lens, Macro lens can also be used as portrait lens. A wide angle or macro depending on the size of the artwork in question. Surprisingly the kit lens on a tripod with OSS turned off under good light will do great.

It depends on the art work. If you are taking pictures of flat art in galleries you will find it easier to use prime lens since they allow the most amount of light.
Prime lenses also are best for statues because you will be able to isolate the subject from the background better.
A prime lens is a lens that has a fixed zoom length.
If you are going to a environment where you aren't sure how close you will be to the subject or how large the subject is you will find a zoom lens best since you can adapt as needed.
