“I'm. new to the lens game. I'm looking for a lens that will take great pictures far away as well as close up without changing lenses. one retailer suggested the 18-200 and another retailer suggested the 55-210. which will give me the better pictures?”

TL;DR: Get the 16mm - 200mm 18-200 is a little bit pricier but you specified in your question being able to go without having to switch lenses. I gonna advise best I can in lay terms here and talk about the golden trio in event photography which does range in need for a given shot. then I'll give my reason for the suggestion For a wide angle, you want a lower mm at 16mm standing in a doorway taking a shot in a standard event sized dining room you're going to see the ceiling floor opposite wall and both walls to your sides. Approx. Room factors apply here but try to picture it. Take the same shot same location with a 50mm you might see only a large dance floor in the full frame and maybe all of the back wall. At 200mm well id try to be about 16 to 20 feet away and it would look like you were 5 feet away from your subject using a 50mm. When I'm doing very close up beauty shots or taking wide-angle shots for a decorated room. I put on my 16-55mm Lens (so I can get real close and fill the frame with head and shoulders or bust) For macro work, I use a 50mm prime (for Boca reasons everyone should own one of these trust me it that low 1.8 Fstop that lets you make people look stunning) And in the moment when running around during events, "So I don't have to actually run to get closer for a shot all the 'action work' I do." Goes to my 55-200 I could have bought the 16-200 you've questioned and honestly only had the one lens cover what I have two lenses for. 16mm - 200mm and I wouldn't have NEEDED the 16-55mm and a 55-210 to cover that part of My Golden Trio.
