The ARC feature eliminates the need to use an additional composite audio cable or an optical cable when connecting an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver or surround sound system to a TV. Connecting an HDMI® cable from an ARC-compatible A/V receiver to an ARC-compatible TV will allow the following: * Send audio to the A/V receiver from the TV. * View and listen to movies and other content from source devices as they are passed through the A/V receiver to view on the TV. It does not matter which HDMI port is going to be used except if you will use the ARC function. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It doesn't matter which HDMI port you use, it's purely your preference. ARC = Audio Return Channel. This means that audio can be sent back to your hometheater receiver: If you had a TV and a home theater receiver that are are HDMI 1.4 and both have the ARC feature, you can send audio back from the TV to the receiver thru the same HDMi cable and listen to it on your hometheater speakers without having to connect a second cable, usually a fibre optic cable. It doesn't hurt anything if you use that HDMI [ARC] port with devices that don't support ARC, but that's the port that supports that functionality.
