my Yamaha amplifier is about 10 years old and it still has digital optical support. I have my consoles and other devices connected to the TV via HDMI and then I run a single digital optical cable from the TV to my amplifier. So I only have to change the input on my TV my amplifier just stays on the Digital optical input.
