Hi Zstear, thank you for your inquiry. There are distinctions in both. A90J is a Master Series TV. There are certain aspects that this product must meet to be called a Master Series television. The panel has to meet certain quality standards and is calibrated off the manufacturing line before distribution. The Master Series A90J also has a dynamic heat sink that measures and controls the heat from the panel in order to maximize the performance. A90J has a backlit remote. A90J can be used with a component audio system and take the place of a center channel speaker instead of using a traditional speaker for that purpose. The A80J can be used as a center channel only with acoustic center sync and a compatible Sony sound system like the A7000 or HT-A9. The acoustic surface audio+ is higher in watts than the A80J if using only the tv for audio. A90J has different cosmetics and feet orientation placement than the A80J depending on size. A90J only comes in 55,65 and 83”, A80J comes in 55,65 & 77” It's recommended that the TV be placed in a space that has plenty of ventilation and should be within the operating temperature of 32 ºF – 104 ºF. These are some of the differences, if you would like to know more, please visit your local retailer for comparison. I hope this helps. Erin
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not know about the heat issue. The difference is the a80j does not have internal speakers built into the screen. If you do not have a receiver system at home, the a80j would need a sound bar to enhance the sound!
