I use a Denon receiver with mine as well as an optical out. It only lets me use one or the other, tv or external speakers.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunately no, there's an option for headphones for it to come through both the headphones and the screens built in speakers but not for external speakers as a soundbar.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm using a Sony soundbar and subwoofer with my Sony 55" A1E. A Sony rep happened to be in the Best Buy store when I was there. I asked him a similar question about the quality of the sound coming through the screen. He recommended a separate sound system as the sound will be fuller and richer. I asked him what that meant. He indicated the screen sound lacks a good bass and and the overall frequency response range can't compare with that of a decent sound system...even a 2.1 system.
