A better picture is going to depend on a few variables. Get a good HDMI, a good surge protector with power filtration, and consider a calibration through Geek Squad, it's $350.

I've owned samsung in the past and their picture quality is brighter and more saturated. Colors really "pop," which you might be used to/prefer. So far I love this Sony TV, color accuracy is wonderful and not overdone. Maybe try different color profiles or even resetting the device. Of course, there are calibration DVD's you can purchase, but I feel like those are hit or miss. My TV color reproduction was good for me out of the box.
