Hi Disappointed, Thank you for your question. Any Sony tv and its picture quality is dependent on the source material and settings on the tv. Sony TVs are made to maximize the signal to the best quality available. With the Cognitive Processor XR, you are getting the best processor in your A80J. The term you use “soap opera” effect usually means motion handling. You can change the motion settings on any Sony tv to your liking. The better the source material for example, going from HD to 4K will increase the realistic look of the picture but you can customize settings to your liking. Hope this helps. -Ralph
