Asked BB about this when it was delivered and setup. They said it would be a new TV and NOT a refurbished TV replacement. The "common sense" statement is not very nice and unnecessary.

These TV's will be obsolete in a couple of years and they release new models every year, so you will be getting it refurbished every time. You will never get a new TV for free, so to be honest it's pointless to buy an extended warranty. You just have to make sure you are buying a quality product. That being said Sony is one of the best, if not the best, so my advice would be to set it up I'm mediately and run it hard all day for a week and see if you were shipped a lemon or not. If not, then you will enjoy your tv for the next ten to fifteen years with no problems.
