“What is the sound quality of the Z9D series vs. the Sony OLED model? I'm hearing that as advanced as both these models are, they still require a sound bar.”

Oled had better sound as it uses acoustic vibration that emits directly from the screen. Therefore,.it fill the room and adds more of a mutlidirectional sound perspective and experience. It is also louder and fuller. I would not decide based on sound and not saying z9d is poor ... just not as advanced. A soundbar is good for either tv given the picture quality of both.

If you are going to watch a movie, you are going to want at least a 2.1 sound bar or maybe a 2.0 with an external sub, to have the sound match the TVs phenomenal picture quality.
