Hi Dave, Thanks for the inquiry. To access Apple Maps and music on the XAV-AX4000, you do not need to have your phone plugged into the USB port. Instead, you can connect your iPhone via Bluetooth. The USB connection is primarily available for Android phones and USB devices in MSC (Mass Storage Class) mode. For iPhones, a Bluetooth connection will allow you to access Apple Maps and music.
