yes you can remove ads by disabling the sony shelf goto settings then apps scroll all the way down to sony shelf disable the sony shelf and or goto google ads as well and do the same..for it to take effect you may need to restart the tv.keep in mind this is a ANDROID TV similar to an android phone theres always recommend apps that pops up on screen from Google all you have to do is disable it and it'll be taken away there are youtube vids on it as well hope this helps

This is not a feature you can turn off when it comes to those applications. During the initial setup process of the tv you can opt out of certain features and that is up to the user to decide what is best for their experience. Thanks, Jay
