“Aperture priority not working My wife is trying to figure out the aperture priority, zooming in the the shot and bluring the background. How does she do this? She choses the mode, then focuses the area she wants but it doesn't blur the background.”

In order for the background to be blurred you have to shoot with the lens "wide open" which lessens the effective depth of field. I am not sure what you mean by your comment on zooming in, but if you select the aperture as wide open and set the focus on the object you want to be sharp the camera will give you a shallow depth of field shot.
