“Connects OK to the TV with good sound. When I switch to my amplifier, display says OK, but NO sound. Can I use a splitter, HDMI to 2 female HDMI, 1 to TV, and then adapter from HDMI to speaker input cables? Could this overload or not work well?”

The way I have mine hooked up is HDMI cable from bluray to TV. I then run 2 RCA cables from the TV's audio out to my receiver. I wound not hook it up the way you described, I think that may cause you a problem.
