Although my player is connected to W-Fi, I don't believe that Wi-Fi is involved in playing a CD or DVD. I have the player connected to my TV via HDMI. Plays DVDs with no problem. You can also play a CD thru the HDMI, although you are relying on the TVs speakers. I also connected the player to my audio system via a digital coax cable for much better sound.
