Hi there, yes, this Sony BDPS5500 supports DVD playback. 3D viewing with this Blu-ray player requires 3D TV and 3D glasses. This unit supports 2D to 3D conversion feature which allows your DVDs or Blu-ray Disc movies to be automatically converted into 3D for playback on your 3D TV. - Jerome
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the Sony Blu ray players will play DVDs and also supports upscaling of DVDs to 1080p/1080i. So by upgrading from a DVD player you will have a fully compatible DVD player as well as a way to view NetFlix, You Tube and numerous other online sources of video and music like Pandora. The Blu ray player will need 3D discs to provide 3D output. It won't convert conventional movies to 3D.
