“I have a 4k tv and a 4k movie but nothing to play it though. Will this serve as a standard 4k player as well? I understand it will also upscale blu rays but i just want to make sure it is also a regular 4k player also.”

This is NOT a 4K blue ray player it will not play 4K dvds. You need a much more expensive player for 4 K blue ray disks. These disks are also super expensive and there are not many out right now.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.no . this upscales blu ray to near 4k. it is not a 4k disc player. i think samsung is the first company to come out with a 4k player and it costs somewhere in the $350 range.
